Alluvial forests in creek bottom were sampled by plots 304, 308, 309.;South facing gorge slope above tributary of New River. Relatively high soil pH and lack of ericads likely influenced by Mauch Chunk geology. Dry conditions evident in wilted herbaceous layer. Forest dominated by white oak and hickory with redbud. Herb layer includes high cover by grasses and presence of rich site forbs.
